Fertile Coturnix and Celadon Quail Hatching Eggs Available

Standard Brown Egg or Blue Egg Laying Coturnix Quail

Looking for fertile Standard, Jumbo or Celadon quail hatching eggs in the UK? At Parkside Poultry, we supply freshly collected quail eggs from carefully managed breeding stock, ideal for hobby keepers, backyard breeders, and smallholders.

Celadon quail are highly sought after for their beautiful naturally blue, sometimes speckled eggs, excellent laying ability, and suitability for small garden setups.

Standard Coturnix quail, often called Japanese quail, are just as productive and easy to keep.

Jumbo Quail are, as the name suggests, bigger, heavier quail. Often far more docile and make fabulous pets because of this. Their eggs are larger, 14g to 19g as standard, and sometimes exceeding 20g! Compared to the more common standard sized Coturnix quail whose eggs are between 10g and 13g.

About Celadon Quail

Celadon quail are a special strain of Japanese coturnix quail carrying a recessive gene responsible for producing blue or blue-green eggs.

Key Characteristics

Friendly and easy to manage

Ideal for beginners and family gardens

Early maturity — hens may lay from 6–8 weeks

Productive layers (often 250–300 eggs per year)

Compact birds perfect for backyard keeping

The only way to tell if a quail will lay blue eggs is if she lays blue eggs.... they are visibly indistinguishable from a standard Coturnix. However if she does produce a blue egg, she is definitely a Celadon hen. Males on the other hand can only be proven to carry the blue gene if you test hatch and grow on the offspring, waiting for the resulting eggs to be laid. The alternative is to buy a true Celadon male from a breeder.

Understanding the Celadon Gene

The Celadon egg colour is inherited through a recessive genetic trait. Both parent birds must carry the gene for offspring to reliably produce blue eggs. Because of normal genetic variation, not every chick hatched will become a blue egg layer.

This rarity makes Celadon quail increasingly popular among UK poultry keepers seeking unusual egg colours. The eggs can be completely smooth and beautifully blue or be speckled with little dark raised dots, very different to the brown patches of the standard coturnix eggs.

Hatching Egg Disclaimer

While fertility within our flock is monitored closely, hatch rates cannot be guaranteed due to variables outside our control, including postal handling and incubation conditions.

Please ensure suitable incubation equipment is prepared prior to purchase.

Due to the nature of hatching eggs I am afraid that all sales are final and refunds of despatched items are not possible.
